  • Muttiah Muralitharan was born on April 17, 1972 in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
  • He holds the world record for the most wickets in both test (800) and one-day cricket (534).
  • He started his cricketing career as a medium pace bowler but on the advice of his school coach he took up off-spin.
  • Muralitharan married Madhimalar Ramamurthy, a Chennai girl, on 21 March 2005
  • He had most 5-wicket hauls in an innings at Test level - 67
