Aditya Verma congratulates Ganguly on becoming Cricket Association of Bengal chief
New Delhi, September 25 - Cricket Association of Bihar secretary Aditya Verma congratulated former India captain Sourav Ganguly on Thursday for being anointed as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Bannerjee announced on Thursday evening that Sourav would take over as the new CAB chief after the post fell vacant following the demise of veteran cricket administrator Jagmohan Dalmiya.
"On behalf of Cricket Association of Bihar, our heartiest congratulations to the prince of Kolkata and Abhishek Dalmiya, son of Legend Dalmiya, for becoming the president and joint secretary of the CAB. Undoubtedly a perfect decision on the right time taken by Mamata didi," Verma said in a statement.
Expressing his condolences on Dalmiya's death, Verma stated that the 75-year-old seemed to be in good health during their last meeting and was hopeful of making a complete recovery.
"On the last 15th of this month when I met sir Dalmiya at his 10 Alipur residence, he was looking very well. I requested him to bring his son (into cricket administration) and give opportunities to Bihar boys during his tenure," Verma said.
"He smiled and replied 'sab jaldi hoga chinta mat karo'. Who knows after five days he left the world on September 20.
"Hope kids of Bihar will also get the blessings of sir Dalmiya."
