WPL 2023: Courtesy of an excellent unbeaten fifty by Alyssa Healy and effective bowling performance, UP Warriorz defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 10 wickets in the 8th match of Women's Premier League 2023. RCB have now lost 4 out of 4 matches while UPW have registered their 2nd win in 3 matches.

Chasing 139 runs to win, UP Warriorz' captain Alyssa Healy finally stepped up after two average outings, and almost smashed her maiden WT20 century. The batter remained unbeaten on 96 runs in 47 balls with 18 fours & a six, hitting the winning run in the 12th over to achieve an easy win.

Devika Vaidya, who was promoted to the opening slot, partnered well with on-song Healy as she scored an unbeaten 36 runs off 31 balls. For RCB, all bowlers had only disappointment printed in their wickets columns. Bangalore have now lost 4 matches in a row, and their winless campaign has all but ended their hopes to compete in the playoffs.

In the first innings, UP produced an excellent bowling performance against a struggling RCB side. English left-arm bowler Sophie Ecclestone was the top bowler as she grabbed 4 wickets for just 13 runs in 3.3 overs. Deepti Sharma also registered 3 scalps to her name while Rajeshwari Gayakwad managed the important wicket of Bangalore captain for just 4 runs as RCB were restricted to 138/10 in 19.3 overs.

Ellyse Perry was the top scorer with 52 runs in 39 balls (4x5,6x1) while Sophie Devine contributed with 36 runs (5x4,6x1). Shreyanka Patil (15) and Erin Burns (12) were the only other batters to breach the double-digit mark.

Earlier, Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Smriti Mandhana won the toss and opted to bat first against UP Warriorz in the 8th match of WPL 2023. This match was played at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
