Asghar replaces Afsar in Afghanistan side

March 20 (CRICKETNMORE) - Afsar suffered a hamstring injury during Afghanistan’s training session on Sunday and has now been ruled out of further participation in the tournament.

The ICC has confirmed that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018 has approved Asghar Stanikzai as a replacement player for Afsar Zazai in the Afghanistan squad for the tournament, which began on 4 March.
 
Afsar suffered a hamstring injury during Afghanistan’s training session on Sunday and has now been ruled out of further participation in the tournament.

Asghar, a top-order batsman, has returned to the side after fully recovering from an appendix operation he had undergone before the start of the tournament. He has to date played in 83 ODIs, in which he has scored 1,565 runs. He has captained Afghanistan in 40 ODIs, winning 22 and losing 16.

The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the incoming player can be officially added to the squad.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018 is made up of Geoff Allardice (ICC General Manager – Cricket, Chairman), Chris Tetley (ICC Head of Events), Faisal Hasnain, Chris Chiketa (both host nominees), Mpumelelo Mbangwa and Lisa Sthalekar (both independent nominees).

Afghanistan take on the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday and then face Ireland on Friday in their last two Super Six matches.
