Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal has insisted that spots are still up for grabs in the side ahead of their three-match series against Ireland.

Bangladesh come into the series on the back of registering a clean sweep over Ireland in the three-game ODI series at home last month.

"There are no particular spots that, I can guarantee, are already fixed. We will play this series and then the next one in different conditions and the best possible team will go (to the World Cup in India)."

"For now, whoever has gotten the opportunity has done well, for instance, Towhid Hridoy.  It's too early to comment but the one series he played in, he has done exceptionally well," Tamim was quoted as saying by ICC.

Bangladesh are currently sitting in fourth place on the ODI Super League standings and have already booked their place at this year's World Cup to be held in India in October-November.

Bangladesh has a chance to overtake England and India and finish as high as second in the standings with three wins against Ireland.

But Tamim feels the favourites word shouldn’t be used as anything can happen on a given day. Bangladesh versus Ireland ODIs will be played on May 9, 12 and 14. "I don't want to use the word favourites a lot. We came here to play good cricket and win games but in cricket, you can't say anything beforehand in terms of what will happen."

"They are a good team in these conditions and they are quite familiar with the conditions. We hope that it will be a good and competitive series," he added.
