New Delhi, September 20 - The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday night condoled the sudden demise of its president Jagmohan Dalmiya.

"On behalf of all the members of BCCI, I wish to submit our condolences to the bereaved family of Mr. Dalmiya," BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said in a statement.

"As a visionary and a father figure of Indian cricket, Mr. Dalmiya worked towards the development of the game of cricket in India. The cricketing fraternity will miss him dearly."

The former International Cricket Council (ICC) president was admitted to B.M. Birla Hospital in Kolkata on Thursday night after complaining of chest pain.

His condition was described as stable on Saturday. Doctors attending to the 75-year-old said that he was responding to medicines and was in a stable condition, but added he would still be under constant monitoring.

"Mr. Dalmiya played a significant part in positioning Indian cricket at the global level and the astute administrator in him, guided Indian cricket to greater heights," added Thakur.

"His untiring efforts will be remembered for generations to come and his contribution to Indian cricket will remain unparalleled."
