BPL: 42-Year Old T20 Legend Chris Gayle Brings Up Another Fifty

Bangladesh Premier League: Undoubtedly the greatest T20 legend of all time, West Indies opener Chris Gayle has yet again reminded the world of what he's capable of. The 42-year old defied his age as he smacked his 38th T20 fifty in the ongoing BPL 2022 match between Sylhet Sunrisers and Fortune Barishal. 

In the 24th match of the Bangladesh Premier League, Sylhet Sunrisers captain Ravi Bopara elected to bowl first after winning the toss. However, Fortune Barishal posted an above-par total of 199/4 in 20 overs. Opener Munim Shahriar laid a good foundation with his 51 of 28 balls, with 6 fours and 3 sixes. However, his partner, the 42-year old Chris Gayle caught eyes with his 38th T20 fifty at such an age. This is Chris Gayle's 110th fifty-plus score in T20. 

The West Indian southpaw scored 52 runs in 45 balls and remained unbeaten. Gayle showcased four boundaries and two sixes in this inning. Along with Munim, Gayle etched a partnership of 72 runs in 6.4 overs, and then after the former's dismissal, Gayle held one end and anchored the innings as Fortune Barishal posted a total of 199/4 in 20 overs.

While writing this piece, Sylhet Sunrisers are at 63/1 in 6.4 overs, chasing a score of 200 in 20 overs. Opener Colin Ingram is batting on 49* off just 22 balls while Mohammad Mithun is at 6*. Fortune Barishal captain Shakib al Hasan picked up Anamul Haque's wicket in the 4th over. Sylhet requires another 137 runs in 80 balls to win this match at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet.
