Bumrah Puts India Ahead On Day 2; England Score 84/5 At Stumps
ENG vs IND - A day filled with rain interruptions and India's new captain Jasprit Bumrah's heroics with both bat and the ball, India managed to stay ahead of England on day 2 as the hosts score 84/5 at stumps on day 2.
With two rain-forced breaks, England lost 5 wickets including the important wicket of former captain and their best batter, Joe Root (31) just 5 overs before the close of play on day 2. At stumps, Jonny Bairstow (12*) and Ben Stokes (0*) are at the crease for the England team.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah picked up 3 wickets while Mohammad Shami and Mohammad Siraj picked up 1 wicket each to dismiss the England top order cheaply. The onus will be on the in-form batters Jonny Bairstow & Ben Stokes to take on fresh Indian bowlers on the morning of day 3.
In the first innings, team India were dismissed for 416 after Rishabh Pant's explosive knock of 146 runs in 111 balls along with Ravindra Jadeja, who scored 103 runs, bringing up his third international test hundred. Stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah smacked an unbeaten 31 runs off 16 balls at the end to power India to a total in excess of 400. For England, ace pacer James Anderson picked up 5 wickets.
