Chameera, Hasaranga's 3-Fers Steer Sri Lanka To A 79- Run Win Against UAE

T20 World Cup 2022: After a fabulous fifty by Pathum Nissanka, Sri Lankan bowlers Dushmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga displayed excellent performances to take Sri Lanka to a 79-run win against UAE. Sri Lanka lost their first match of Round 1 against Namibia, but have now kept their qualification chances alive with a huge win. 

Defending a target of 153, Sri Lanka dealt the first blow as Dushmantha Chameera dismissed Muhammad Waseem (2) in the 3rd over. Chameera went on to dismiss Aryan Lakra (1) in the same over. 

Captain CP Rizwan was dismissed next in the 5th over as Chameera picked his third wicket inside the powerplay, breaking the UAE's batting backbone. Wanindu Hasaranga also picked up 3 wickets while Pramod Madushan, Maheesh Theekshana and Dasun Shanaka grabbed 1 wicket each to restrict UAE to 73 runs in 17.1 overs. 

In the first innings, UAE spinner Karthik Meiyappan grabbed a hat-trick while Pathum Nissanka scored a fabulous half-century as Sri Lanka posted 153/8 in 20 overs in the Round 1 match against UAE. Opener Pathum Nissanka was the lone ranger as he remained not out till the end. 

Opening the innings, Pathum Nissanka smashed 74 runs off 60 balls with 6 fours & 2 sixes before getting dismissed in the 20th over. Dhananjaya de Silva contributed with 33 runs off 21 balls with 3 fours & a six. While Kusal Mendis scored 18 runs off 13 balls. 

However, none of the other Lankan batters were able to cross the double-digit mark. Karthik Meiyappan grabbed a hat-trick in the 15th over as he dismissed Bhanuka Rajapaksa (5), Charith Asalanka (0) and Dasun Shanaka (0). Zahoor Khan picked up 2 wickets while Aryan Lakra & Aayan Afzal also grabbed 1 wicket each.

Earlier, UAE captain CP Rizwan won the toss & opt to bowl first against Sri Lanka in the Round 1 match of the T20 World Cup 2022. This match was played at Simonds Stadium, Geelong.
