Delhi Capitals Down Winless Royal Challengers Bangalore By 6 Wickets In WPL 2023

DEL-w vs RCB-w: Disappointment has continued for Royal Challengers Bangalore as they were handed a 6 wicket defeat by Delhi Capitals in the 11th match of Women's Premier League 2023. Jess Jonassen smacked a six and a four in the last over to clinch Delhi's 4th win of the season.

Chasing 151 runs to win, Delhi Capitals got off to a bad start as they lost explosive opener Shafali Verma for a golden duck on the 2nd bowl of the innings. Alice Capsey smacked four consecutive fours in the 4th over against Preeti Bose but gave away her wicket on the 5th delivery to reduce DC to 45/2. 

Jemimah Rodrigues then held the crease while captain Meg Lanning struggled to get going. Lanning was ultimately dismissed for 15 runs off 18 balls by Asha Shobana in the 9th over. Jemimah Rodrigues was then dismissed in the 15th over after scoring 32 runs in 28 balls. 

From thereon, Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen got together as the duo etched an unbroken partnership of 45* runs in 31 balls to take DC to a 6 wicket win with 2 deliveries remaining. For RCB, Asha Shobana picked up 2 wicekts while Megan Schutt and Preeti Bose managed 1 wicket each. This is 5th consecutive defeat for RCB this season, as they are yet to register their first win. 

In the first innings, Ellyse Perry's 2nd consecutive half-century and Richa Ghosh's explosive cameo guided Royal Challengers Bangalore to 150/4 in 20 overs. After Smriti Mandhana was dismissed in the 5th over for just 8 runs, things yet again looked bleak for RCB. 

Sophie Devine (21) was also dismissed for 21 runs as the RCB scoreboard read 41/2. A brilliant catch by Shikha Pandey ended in-form Heather Knight's inning for just 11 runs, as RCB lost their 3rd wicket for a total of 63.

From there on, Ellyse Perry and Richa Ghosh got together as the duo added 74 runs in just 34 balls for the 4th wicket. Richa Ghosh was dismissed after smacking 37 runs off just 16 balls with 3 fours & 3 sixes, maintaining a strike rate of 231.25. Ellyse Perry meanwhile remained unbeaten on 67 runs in 52 balls with 4 fours & 5 sixes. 

Shreyanka Patil also remained not out on 4 runs in 6 deliveries. For Delhi, Shikha Pandey was the top wicket-taker with 3 wickets to her name while Tara Norris managed 1 wicket. 

Earlier, Delhi Capitals captain Meg Lanning won the toss & opted to bowl first against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 11th match of Women's Premier League 2023. This match was being played at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai.
