Disappointed with fielding efforts, says Lehmann

Sydney, Jan 8 (IANS) Australian cricket coach Darren Lehmann lamented his team’s poor fielding performance on the third day of the fourth Test against India, and said it was “disappointing” to say the least.

Captain Steven Smith dropped Virat Kohli and Lokesh Rahul while they were batting on 54 and 46 respectively. Both of them scored centuries, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

There were also difficult chances missed at short-leg and a run-out opportunity of Rahul which went begging.

"They were a couple of tough chances but you've still got to take those on wickets where it's going to deteriorate day four, day five. We needed to speed up the game today," Lehman said.

"So (it was) a little bit disappointing, we need to take those chances and that's now two Test matches in a row, But there's still a lot of time in this game.”

Lehmann has also emphasised the importance of latching onto the chances and working hard on the field to build up enough confidence to overcome the fear of dropping catches.

"You just keep training hard, they've got sore hands at the moment. It's just a confidence thing I'm sure, it's certainly not a skill level from their point of view or concentration or any of those sorts of issues, it's just maybe the confidence to take the ball," he added.
