India will be coming in to bat on the final day needing 157 runs to win the 1st test with nine wickets in hand after they bowled England out for 303 and then managed to score 52, in 14 overs they got to play in the 3rd session.

The hosts managed to get a lead of 208 runs, courtesy of Joe Root's 109 earlier in the day. While England looked like cruising towards a 250 plus lead, Jasprit Bumrah picked a fifer to bring India back into the game.

Resuming the day at 25/0, England lost wickets early in the morning session. Mohammed Siraj removed Rory Burns for 18 while Jasprit Bumrah got Zak Crawley soon.

Root then joined Dom Sibley to counter the Indian bowling attack that was breathing fire at the moment. The final hour, though, became good for batting and the pair capitalized on it and went past the score of 95.

The duo's 89-run partnership was broken by Bumrah in the form of Sibley, who scored 28.

Root was then joined in by Jonny Bairstow and two looked to pounce on anything within the reach. Bairstow hit 30 off 50 balls before he got out at the boundary off Mohammed Siraj's delivery.

Daniel Lawrence, too, had similar instructions to hit anything within the reach. Lawrence also got a quick 25 from 32 balls but Shardul Thakur trapped him in front.

Just at the start of the 3rd session, Thakur removed Buttler - bringing in Sam Curran to the crease. The lefty all-rounder looked to score freely from the word go. He, too, hit a crucial 32 from 45 as England stretched the lead to 208.

Indian openers - KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma - survived a few close misses but managed to put runs on the board whenever they got a chance. Rahul, however, edged one to the keeper 15 minutes before the stumps.

Cheteshwar Pujara hit three boundaries to finish a successful day for India.

Brief Score:

England - 183/10 & 303/10
India - 278/10 & 52/1
