ENG v IND, 2nd Test: Shami-Bumrah Steal The Show In 1st Session As India Takes 259-Run Lead
Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah have taken the game away from England in the 1st session as India took a 259-run lead on day 5 of the 2nd test.
Resuming the day at a tricky score of 181/6, Rishabh Pant began the proceedings with a down-the-track shot to James Anderson. However, Ollie Robinson pushed India to backfoot as he got Pant caught behind.
If England thought that the match was in their hands, they were proved completely wrong as Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah stiched a record-breaking unbeaten 77-run partnership off 111 deliveries. This is now the highest ninth-wicket partnership by India against England at Lord's.
The partnership began with a heated on-field battle between the two and the English bowlers, who looked to bounce the Indian tail out. However, Bumrah and Shami not only showed their improved defensive technique but also some classic drives.
Shami was the aggressor among the two as he reached his second test fifty with a six off Moeen Ali. Going into Lunch, India has at least made sure England's chance of winning this test has gone down to the bottom.
Brief Score:
India - 286/8 in 108 overs, leads England by 259 runs.
