Fans Removed From SCG As Racist Jibes Continue Against Indians
A total of six members from the crowd were evicted from the stadium after Indian fast bowler Mohammad Siraj complained of continuous racist remarks came from the crowd.
The game was stopped for around 10 minutes as umpires and match officials looked into the matter. The New South Wales(NSW) police also came into play as they picked up six fans in the crowd from their seats.
"Cricket Australia condemns in the strongest terms possible all discriminatory behavior. If you engage in racist abuse, you are not welcome in Australian cricket," said Sean Carroll, Cricket Australia’s Head of Integrity and Security.
"As series hosts, we unreservedly apologize to our friends in the Indian cricket team and assure them we will prosecute the matter to its fullest extent," he further added.
Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah first complained about the issue after the end of Day three play. The matter has gone with ICC now.
"CA is awaiting the outcome of the International Cricket Council’s investigation into the matter reported at the SCG on Saturday. Once those responsible are identified, CA will take the strongest measures possible under our Anti-Harassment Code, including lengthy bans, further sanctions and referral to NSW Police," Sean Carroll said.
