Focus is on cementing Test spot: Mitchell Marsh

Melbourne, May 16 (IANS) All-rounder Mitchell Marsh said on Saturday that his sole focus is on cementing a spot in the Australian Test squad.

"Long term, I want my place to be cemented in that Test spot. I feel like if I'm doing that then one-day and Twenty20 cricket will take care of itself if I'm playing good Test cricket. All my focus is going in to that,” Mitchell was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

The 23-year-old made his Test debut against Pakistan at Dubai in 2014 and has played four matches so far.

"I was pretty nervous in that first Test. It was probably a little bit different for me in the fact that we had about 45 people in the stadium that held 50,000, and 24 of those were Marsh'es. It didn't exactly feel like a Test match," said Marsh.

"Once I got home back to Australia playing in front of big crowds, that was just an amazing experience. That's what drives you, really wanting to play in front of the big crowds and on the big stage."

However, Mitchell got injured soon in the second Test against India at the end of 2014. He says it was “gut-wrenching” but added he is hopeful of a comeback into the squad along with brother Shaun.

"When we played that first Test together and I got injured on the first day it was gut-wrenching. You don't want to get injured anytime playing for Australia. But the first one with your brother, you want to be out there as much as you can. We've got a big 12 months of Test cricket coming up so hopefully we'll both be in there," added the Perth born cricketer.
