Former cricketer arrested for duping young cricketers
New Delhi, Aug 22 - A 29-year-old former cricketer has been arrested for allegedly duping young cricketers whom he promised to send to Australia to play the game, police said on Tuesday.
Saurav Bhamri was arrested from his hometown at Hapur at Uttar Pradesh.
"A manhunt was launched for him last month but he evaded arrest by changing his hideouts. The Crime Branch on Monday raided his hometown and arrested him," a police officer told IANS.
"He was taking money from young cricketers after promising to send them to Australia for club matches. He gave fake visas to them. He took Rs 5 to 20 lakh from every person," the officer added.
"He boasted that he had good contacts with Australian cricket associations... We are interrogating him."
His crime came to light on July 29 after a victim, Rishab Tyagi, a Delhi resident, complained to the Crime Branch of Delhi Police.
