Gujarat Titans Seal A Thriller Against Kolkata Knight Riders

A disciplined Gujarat Titans bowling held its nerve to help seal a thriller as they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by eight runs in the 35th match of the IPL 2022 played at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai. 

Chasing a total of 157, KKR got off to a horrific start as they lost four wickets in 6.1 overs for the score of 34 runs. All top four batters including Sam Billings, Sunil Narine, Nitish Rana, and Shreyas Iyer got out to the pace trio of Mohammad Shami, Yash Dayal, and Lockie Ferguson. 

Rinku Singh and Venkatesh Iyer took control of the situation and added 45 runs in the 36 balls. Rinku scored 35 runs in 28 balls before Yash struck again in the 13th over. Venkatesh followed in the next over after scoring 17 in 17 balls. 

Shivam Mavi was the next victim in the 16th over reducing KKR to 108/7. Andre Russell and Umesh Yadav took the game deep with their 37-run partnership. The situation had reduced to 18 in the last over and Russell smacked a six on the first ball. 

However, Alzarri Joseph kept his cool and got the big man out for 48 on the next ball and helped Gujarat in winning the game by eight runs. 

Earlier, Hardik Pandya's 67 took the Titans to 156/9 in the first inning.

Pandya batted at number three and played till the 18th over. The runs came only from Pandya's bat as the next best score was 27 by David Miller. Wriddhiman Saha made a run-a-ball 25 opening the inning. 

After Southee picked three wickets bowling in all phases of the game, Russell picked up four wickets in the last over the inning itself to restrict Gujarat to 156.
