Hasaranga Picks Five As Royal Challengers Bangalore Thrash Sunrisers Hyderabad By 67 Runs
Wanindu Hasaranga's five-wicket haul helped Royal Challengers Bangalore convincingly defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 67 runs in match 54 of the IPL 2022 played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
Chasing 193, SRH lost both openers - Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma - in the first over only. Williamson got run out without facing a ball while Glenn Maxwell shattered Abhishek's stumps.
Aiden Markram and Rahul Tripathi then added 50 runs for the third wicket. Markram scored 21 runs in 27 balls before Hasaranga got him out caught in the ninth over. Nicholas Pooran scored 19 off 14 before becoming the second victim of Hasaranga in the 13th over. Jagadeesh Suchith was the third wicket for the leg-spinner.
Rahul Tripathi scored 58 off 37 balls to keep Hyderabad in the run chase but Josh Hazlewood got him out in the 16th over to push SRH out of the game. On the next ball, Hazlewood got Kartik Tyagi out as well.
The next over saw Hasaranga pick two in two balls - Shashank Singh and Umran Malik - to register his five-wicket haul; it was also a double-wicket maiden. RCB wrapped up things in the last over as Harshal Patel got Bhuvneshwar Kumar out.
Earlier, a strong middle order performance helped Bangalore post a competitive 192/3 in the first inning.
After Virat Kohli register his third golden duck of the IPL 2022, Faf du Plessis and Rajat Patidar took the charge and added 105 runs for the second wicket in 12 overs. Patidar smacked 48 in 38 balls before getting out.
Du Plessis and Maxwell then added 54 for the third wicket in 37 balls. Maxwell hit 33 in 24 balls but got out in the penultimate over. Dinesh Karthik came and played eight balls and smashed 30 runs, hitting four sixes and one four. Du Plessis on the other end remained not out on 73 off 50 balls.
