India has pushed New Zealand to the back foot at the end of day 4 where the visitors need 284 runs to win the first test match at Green Park Stadium. Although the Kanpur pitch hasn't had any demons in it so far but chasing a total of more than 250 won't be an easy task due to its slow and low nature.

Another reason why chasing here isn't easy is because of what history tells us. In the first three innings, the batting averages remain in the 30s but it drops sharply in the early 20s in the 4th innings.

Let's take a look at the highest successful run chases in Tests in Kanpur:

1) India vs New Zealand, 1999

The highest successful run-chase in Kanpur is just 83 where India completed the match 80.2 overs against New Zealand in 1999. Sachin Tendulkar(44*) and Devang Gandhi(31*) finished the game.

2) India vs England, 1952

India suffered a defeat in this test against visitors England, who chased down 76 runs in the final innings in 1952. Tom Graveney scored 48 not out to complete the chase.

3) India vs South Africa, 2008
