Resuming the day at 221/4, Patel struck in the 3rd over of the day as he trapped Wriddhiman Saha in front with a straighter delivery to pick his third five-wicket haul. On the very next delivery, he bowled R Ashwin with a beauty to find himself on a hattrick.

Although Mayank was the set batter but he too couldn't find any lose delivery to try and dominate the bowlers. However, both Mayank and Axar defended well and didn't allow New Zealand to pick another wicket despite them taking a new ball.
