India vs Sri Lanka: A complete team performance helped India defeat Sri Lanka by 62 runs in the 1st T20I of the three-match series.

Chasing a tough total of 200, Sri Lanka lost the first wicket on the first ball of the run chase as Bhuvneshwar Kumar clean bowled Pathum Nissanka. India picked another wicket and restricted Sri Lankan batters from scoring freely in the powerplay as the score reached 29 after six overs.

Even after the powerplay, run-scoring was difficult for the visitors as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Charith Asalanka saved the wicket from one end. He finally got some support from Chamika Karunaratne and together they added 37 runs for the sixth wicket.

Karunaratne got out scoring 21 off 14 but Dushmantha Chameera joined Asalanka at the crease. Even required run rate was reached an ungettable stage, Asalanka and Chameera added 40 off the 26 balls to frustrate the Indian bowlers.

Sri Lanka fell short by 62 runs in the end but didn't lose more than six wickets.

Earlier, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer's blistering half-centuries helped India power to 199/2 in the first innings.

On being asked to bat first, Indian openers - Ishan and Rohit Sharma - started brilliantly and scored 58 runs inside the powerplay. Ishan was the aggressor while Rohit played the second fiddle. The duo added 111 runs for the first wicket in 11.5 overs before Rohit got out at the score of 44 runs.

Ishan continued to score freely with Shreyas Iyer. The pair added another 44 runs in the next four overs before Kishan finally miscued one and got out scoring 89 runs.

Iyer took the charge and smacked 57 runs in 28 balls to help India finish on a high.
