India Cruise To Women's T20 World Cup Semi-Finals With 5-Run Win Against Ireland In Rain Affected Match

INDW vs IREW: In the 18th match of the ongoing Women's T20 World Cup 2023 at St. George's Park, team India registered a 5-run win via the Duckworth Lewis method against Ireland in their last group stage match. With this win, India have confirmed their semi-final berth in the ongoing women's T20 World Cup. 

Indian opener and star batter Smriti Mandhana was the hero of the match for team India as her fabulous knock while opening set the match for team India. Mandhana stayed at the crease almost till the 19th over, facing 56 balls and scoring 87 runs. The left-handed batter maintained a strike rate of 155.36. During her knock, Mandhana smacked 9 fours & 3 sixes, collecting 54 runs off just 12 balls. Courtesy of this knock, India posted a good total of 155 runs on the board. Mandhana was also adjudged the 'player of the match'.

In the rain-affected match, India posted a target of 156 runs while batting first against Ireland. In reply, Ireland lost two quick wickets and scored 54 runs for 2 wickets in 8.2 overs before rain intervened. The Irish team was 5 runs behind on the DLS score and hence, lost yet another match. 

Earlier, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss & opted to bat first against Ireland in the 18th match of the Women's T20 World Cup 2023. Smriti Mandhana scored 87 runs while opening and helped India to a total of 155 runs in 20 overs.

With this win, India have confirmed their semi-final berth in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2023. In group B, India have confirmed their second spot with 3 wins in 4 matches, losing only against table toppers England in the group stage. Ireland on the other hand remained winless in the tournament. After winning a warm-up game against Australia, Ireland faced defeats against Pakistan, West Indies and England along with India to crash out of the tournament.
