India On Top Despite Lagging In First Session On Day 4; Bangladesh 272/6 At Stumps
IND vs BAN: In the first Test match between India and Bangladesh being played at Chattogram, team India returned from a disappointing first session on day 4 and reduced Bangladesh to _ at stumps on Day 4, with the hosts needing another _ runs to win the match.
In the first session, Bangladesh resumed their innings at 42/0 on day 4, and the openers played steadily, etching a record-breaking 124-run partnership for the first wicket. Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 67 runs with 7 fours after being dismissed for a golden duck in the first innings.
Shanto was the first wicket of the day as Rishabh Pant took an excellent rebound catch in the 2nd session. However, his opening partner and debutant Zakir Hasan went on in the 2nd session as Bangladesh lost two more wickets on the other end in the 2nd session. Yasir Ali was cleaned up by Axar Patel and Litton Das was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav at the stroke of Tea.
In the third session, Zakir Hasan notched his maiden Test hundred debut and became the fourth Bangla batter ever to smack a century on debut. Moreover, he became the first opener to score a century on his Test debut for Bangladesh. However, the batter was dismissed just after completing his ton and Ashwin grabbed his first wicket of the match, courtesy of a brilliant catch by Virat Kohli.
In the 88th over of Bangladesh's 2nd innings, Axar Patel dismissed Mushfiqur Rahim (23) on the first delivery and Nurul Hasan (3) on the last delivery of the over to reduce Bangladesh's remaining wickets to 4. From thereon, captain Shakib Al Hasan (40*) and in-form Mehidy Hasan Miraz (9*) carefully played the remaining overs of the day with an unbeaten partnership of 34 runs in 84 balls.
When the play resumes on Day 5, Bangladesh will require 241 more runs to win their first-ever Test against India, while India will need just 3 more wickets to win the match. Earlier, India captain KL Rahul won the toss & opted to bat first in the 1st Test match, after which half-centuries from Cheteshwar Pujara, Shreyas Iyer and R Ashwin took India to 404/10 in the first innings.

In reply, Bangladesh were bowled out for 150 runs as Kuldeep Yadav picked up his 3rd 5-wicket haul in the 8 Tests he has played for India. India didn't enforce the follow-on and Shubman Gill (110) and Pujara (102) scored centuries, KL Rahul declared the innings on 258/2, setting a target of 513 runs.
