Following the major outbreak of the new Covid variant - Omicron, India's tour of South Africa is likely to get delayed by at least a week.

According to a report in the Indian Express, BCCI has been in conversation with Cricket South Africa to sort out the arrangements. The Indian government’s travel advisory has identified certain countries as “at-risk” countries, including South Africa.

South Africa’s new cases of Covid-19 nearly doubled in a day, authorities reported Wednesday, signaling a dramatic surge in the country where scientists detected the omicron variant last week.

BCCI didn't pull out of India A tour to South Africa where the team is currently playing the 2nd test in Bloemfontein, however, the new variant has made the India board think it through before the senior team travels.

Indian team's selection, too, has been delayed since there is no confirmation regarding the tour as of now. Earlier, the team was scheduled to finalize after the 1st test against New Zealand.
