India defeated Australia to win the final test of the four-match test series and retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy - 2-1. The final victory came at the fortress of Gabba where Australia was undefeated for the last 32 years.

1) Mohammed Siraj dismissed David Warner in the first over of the Brisbane Test. This was the first instance of Australia losing a wicket in the very first over of a Test match at the Gabba in 35 years.
2) The 123-run partnership between Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur on Day 3 was India’s first century stand in Test cricket at the Gabba for 7th or lower wicket. This was also the 4th highest partnership for India on Australian soil for the 7th or lower wicket.
3) Washington Sundar became the 2nd youngest player in Test history to score a fifty and claim a 3-wicket haul on Test debut. Tim Southee was the youngest player, 19 years and 106 days old when he complied this double in the 2008 Napier Test against England.
4) Indian bowlers shared all 20 wickets of Australia in this match between them, which is the first instance of visiting bowlers claiming 20 wickets at the Gabba since the West Indies in the 1992 Test.
5) Rishabh Pant completed his 1000 runs in Test Cricket on Day 5. He became the fastest Indian wicketkeeper-batsman to achieve this milestone - 27 innings. He broke the record of MS Dhoni who held the record of scoring 1000 runs in 32 innings.
