IPL 2021 Likely To Be Held In These 4 Cities, Mumbai Not Included
BCCI is considering various venues for the Indian Premier League(IPL) 2021.
Until last month, BCCI and IPL Committee were considering Mumbai to hold the entire league stage of the IPL in the four different venues - Wankhede, Brabourne, DY Patil, and Reliance Stadium. However, since the Covid-19 cases have risen once again in the city, the BCCI is hunting for different cities that can be used.
"There is still a month left for the IPL to start but obviously some decisions need to be taken. It will be risky to have a single city IPL in Mumbai if there is a steady rise in cases that's happening right now," a BCCI official said.
The official said that cities like Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Bengaluru are being taken into consideration. The playoff stage is likely to be held in the newly constructed Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad.
"So cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Kolkata will be ready to host matches. Ahmedabad, in all likelihood, will host the play-off and final match of IPL," he told.
However, another source revealed a different reason for the change in venue from Mumbai to different cities.
"Mumbai is still not final and it is because the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, headed by Uddhav Thackeray, has not yet given the final go-ahead," the source said.
IPL 2021 schedule is yet to be finalized. However, one rumored date as of now is April 11th. The crowds are likely to be allowed in the stadiums.
