IPL 2022 Auction: Most Expensive Player Buys On Day 1

As day 1 concluded in the IPL 2022 Auction, many players attracted intense bidding fights to build a team for the upcoming IPL editions. 
Indian players especially attracted huge attention, even some uncapped players who were not retained and yet bought back by their franchise at a much higher price. 

Let's take a look at the most expensive buys on day 1 of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.


1. Ishan Kishan (15.25 Crores - Mumbai Indians)

Mumbai Indians went all out to buy the explosive wicketkeeper batter. MI started the bidding at 2 crores and defeated three teams to bag the player as the second most expensive Indian player in the history of IPL after Yuvraj Singh. Punjab Kings put their bids for the 23-year old til 7.50 crores, after which the new franchise Gujarat Giants went on 12.50 crores. 

When MI finally thought they had their player back at 13 crores, Sunrisers Hyderabad joined in and forced Mumbai to buy Ishan Kishan at 15.25 crores. 


2. Deepak Chahar (14 Crores - Chennai Super Kings)

The Indian fast bowler has now established that he can finish the innings well enough batting at #7 or #8. Chennai Super Kings focused on the players who were part of the winning squad in IPL 2021, and they didn't care about the money as they brought back Deepak Chahar to the team. 

Sunrisers Hyderabad, then Delhi Capitals, and finally Sunrisers Hyderabad tried to get the all-rounder but Chennai didn't budge and finally regained the 29-year old. 


3. Shreyas Iyer (12.25 Crores - Kolkata Knight Riders)

Kolkata Knight Riders saw their much-needed captain in Shreyas Iyer and decided to buy the batter without caring about their purse. 

As many as 4 teams tried to get Shreyas Iyer, and even though KKR didn't start the bidding, they joined in at 6.75 crores and went on to first beat Delhi Capitals and then Gujarat Titans and bought their most probable future captain for 12.25 crores.


4. Wanindu Hasaranga (RCB), Harshal Patel (RCB), Nicholas Pooran (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Shardul Thakur (DC) - 10.75 Crores

As many as 4 players on the 4th spot went for a sum of 10.75 crores. Wanindu Hasaranga, the #1 ranked all-rounder was bought back by Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB also went on to buy the Purple Cap winner in 2021 for 10.75 crores. 

Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Nicholas Pooran for whom KKR was ready to reduce their purse amount to 10 crores, with 10 players still needed. However, SRH didn't let KKR pull off this stunt and bought the West Indies batter for 10.75 crores. Delhi Capitals, who tried to get Deepak Chahar, managed to acquire Shardul Thakur for 10.75 crores after CSK couldn't go beyond a budget despite wanting to buy back the player. 


5. Lockie Ferguson (Gujarat Titans), Prasidh Krishna (Rajasthan Royals), Avesh Khan (Lucknow SuperGiants) - 10 Crores

Three fast bowlers went for a sum of 10 crores to acquire the #5 spot on this list. NZ pacer Lockie Ferguson was acquired by Gujarat Titans after they outbid Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow SuperGiants. Prasidh Krishna was the highest wicket-taker in the recently concluded series against West Indies and was rewarded with a huge amount.

Rajasthan Royals outbid both the new franchises - Lucknow Supergiants and Gujarat Titans to acquire the pacer. While Lucknow managed to buy the uncapped Indian pacer Avesh Khan after a long bid battle with Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants.
