IPL 2022: Allround Rajasthan Storm Past Sunrisers Hyderabad
An allround team performance helped Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 61 runs in the 5th match of the IPL 2022 at Pune's MCA Stadium.
SRH had a horror start to the 211-run chase as they lost three wickets inside five overs and could only score 14 runs at the end of the powerplay. Prasidh Krishna and Trent Boult made the ball dance against SRH's top order.
Krishna got Kane Williamson and Rahul Tripathi out in consecutive overs while Boult removed Nicholas Pooran in the fifth over for a duck. Further, Hyderabad lost the fourth wicket in the form of Abhishek Sharma in the ninth over and the fifth wicket in the 11th over with the score reading 37.
Romario Shepherd and Aiden Markram added 41 runs in 32 balls for the sixth wicket but the damage had been done for SRH and there was no going back. Shepherd scored 24 in 18 balls including two sixes.
Washington Sundar entertained the crowd with a blistering 40 off just 14 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes. Markram remained unbeaten on 57 from 41 balls including five fours and two sixes.
Krishna finished with the figures of 2/16 in four overs, Boult 2/23 - both bowled a maiden over each - and Yuzvendra Chahal picked three wickets for 22 runs in his four overs.
Earlier, the Royals smacked Hyderabad bowlers for 210 runs in the first inning.
Despite a beautiful first over by Bhuvneshwar Kumar that also got Jos Buttler out on a no-ball, RR scored 58 runs inside the powerplay. Buttler, playing with a bit of luck, scored 35 off 28 while Yashaswi Jaiswal made 20 from 16 balls.
After RR lost both the openers in quick succession after the powerplay, Sanju Samson continued the momentum and was helped by Devdutt Padikkal's quick-fire 41 from 29 balls that included four fours and two sixes.
Samson smacked 55 off 27 balls with the help of five sixes and three fours and Shimron Hetmyer took the baton from there to finish the inning well for the Royals with his 32 from 13 balls that included three sixes and two fours. RR finished at 210/6.
Umran Malik and T Natarajan picked two wickets each but both were quite expensive conceding 39 & 43 runs respectively. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Romario Shepherd got one wicket each.
