The 2022 season of the Indian Premier League will be hosted in India, clarified BCCI president Sourav Ganguly. While the venues for the league stages have been decided, the venues for the play-offs would be fixed upon later, said Ganguly in an interview with Star Network.

Ganguly said that league stage matches of the IPL 2022 will be played in Maharashtra - Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune. Earlier, there were speculations that BCCI is looking to host the IPL elsewhere, out of India due to COVID.

Sourav Ganguly said, "It (IPL 2022) will be held in India this year, until and unless the COVID-19 hits the roof. So far, it has been decided that the IPL will be played in India. As far as venues are concerned, we are looking at hosting the matches in Maharashtra - Mumbai and Pune. We will then take a call on the venue for the knockout stages"

IPL 2020 in its entirety and half of IPL 2021 was hosted by United Aram Emirates (UAE). However, now BCCI has decided upton four venues to host the IPL 2022, namely Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium & Brabourne Stadium, D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and M.C.A Stadium in Pune.

This move will help the franchises as they'll have to carry fewer reserves and extras, and the bio-bubble would be more secure. BCCI has informed all the franchises about its intention of hosting the IPL 2022 at four stadiums. The IPL 2022 Mega Auction is set to be held on 12th-13th February 2022 at Bangalore.
