In the recently concluded IPL Player Retentions, Glenn Maxwell, along with former skipper Virat Kohli & emerging pacer Mohammad Siraj was retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.

Glenn Maxwell has represented Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings & Delhi Daredevils in the IPL. 'Big Show' Maxwell was released by the Punjab franchise in 2021 and a huge bidding war was waged to get the services of this player in the IPL 2021 Auction.

RCB were ultimately able to acquire this player from Australia for a sum of 14.25 crores. He was the #3 on the most expensive players in the IPL 2021 auction, after Chris Morris (16.25 crore by RR) & Kyle Jamieson (15 crores by RCB).

Maxwell redeemed himself in his new side, as he ended up as the highest run-scorer in the RCB team. Maxi registered 498 runs in 14 matches averaging 45.27. He smashed 6 fifties throughout the tournament, which was more than any batter in the top 10 highest run-scorers in IPL 2021, and equal to orange cap winner KL Rahul. He finished with a strike rate of 147.33, his best since 2017.

However, despite a remarkable performance, Glenn Maxwell was handed a pay cut in the recently announced player retentions. RCB retained the star batter for 11 crores. This is the first time in Maxi's IPL career that he has been handed a pay cut. Every season, his salary has seen increment.

In the year 2013, the 25-year-old was bought by the Mumbai Indians for 5.30 crores. Next season, he was bought by Kings XI Punjab (Punjab Kings) for a sum of 6 crores. After playing4 seasons for the Punjab franchise, he was acquired by Delhi Daredevils for 9 crores in 2018.

2 seasons later, in 2020, he was again bought by the Punjab franchise for 10.75 crores. Then, in 2021, RCB caught the big fish for 14.25 crores; Maxwell's highest salary in IPL till now.

Even after a tremendous performance, Glenn Maxwell was handed a pay cut. This is understandably due to the Purse limit for franchises for the IPL 2022 mega auction. This suggests that the Australian batter is committed to the franchise and enjoying his time, and the fans would be hoping for the Royal Challengers to lift their maiden IPL trophy with Maxwell's aid.
