IPL Stats: Batters With Most Runs In Indian Premier League

IPL 2022 is set to kick off from 26th March, where 4-time IPL champs Chennai Super Kings will clash with 2-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium in the season opener of IPL season 15.

IPL is set to return to India after one and a half seasons were hosted in UAE due to Covid-related restrictions. Moreover, 2 more teams have joined the competition and a tournament between 10 teams would mean the level of toughness would increase.

Let's have a look at top run-scorers throughout the IPL history. 


#5. David Warner (5,449 runs)

Australian opener David Warner ranks 5th on this list with 5,449 runs to his name in 150 matches, averaging 41.59 with a strike rate of 139.96, while representing Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers Hyderabad. The left-hander has smacked 4 centuries and 5 half-centuries, with a top score of 126, which came against the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2017. Warner smacked 126 runs off 59 balls with 10 fours and 8 sixes as SRH posted 209/3 in the first innings, and won the match by 48 runs. Warner will represent Delhi again in IPL 2022 after being bought by Delhi Capitals at 6.25 crores. 


#4. Suresh Raina (5,528 runs)

'Mr. IPL' Suresh Raina ranks next on this list of top high scorers in the IPL. While representing Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Lions, Raina has registered a total of 5,528 runs in 205 matches, averaging 32.51 with a strike rate of 136.73. 'Chinna' Thala has smacked 39 fifties in the IPL along with a century. Raina's top score in IPL remains 100* which came against Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2013 as CSK posted 186/4 in the first innings and won the match by 15 runs. The 35-year old left-hander went unsold in the auction and is highly unlikely to feature in the IPL hereon.  


#3. Rohit Sharma (5,611 runs)

Indian captain Rohit Sharma ranks third on this list with 5,611 runs to his name in 82 matches. The 'hitman' has represented two teams in the IPL - Hyderabad Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians and has scored 40 half-centuries and a century in the IPL. Rohit's top score in the IPL game against Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2012. Sharma scored an unbeaten 109 runs off 60 balls with 12 fours and 5 sixes as MI posted 182/1 in the first innings, and won the match by 27 runs. Rohit will be captaining MI in IPL 2022, already having won 5 IPL trophies while leading the same franchise. 


#2. Shikhar Dhawan (5,784 runs)

Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan ranks second among the highest run-scorers in the IPL. The southpaw has registered 5,784 runs in 192 IPL matches while representing as many as 5 franchises - Deccan Chargers, Delhi Capitals, Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Shikhar's top score came against Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020, as the batter smacked 106* runs from 61 balls with 12 fours and 3 sixes to help the team a total of 164/5. DC however lost the match by 5 wickets. The 36-year old has smacked 44 fifties and 2 centuries in the IPL and will represent Punjab Kings in the IPL 2022 after being acquired for a price of 8.25 crores in the auction.


#1. Virat Kohli (6,283 runs)

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli ranks first on this list and is the only player to score more than 6,000 runs in the IPL. The batting great has scored these runs in 207 matches while representing a single franchise - Royal Challengers Bangalore, and average 37.39 with a strike rate of 129.94. Kohli's best IPL score of 113 runs came in IPL 2016, where Kohli scored 113 runs of 50 balls as RCB posted 211/3 in the first innings, and went on to win the match by 82 runs. Kohli will represent RCB in IPL 2022 after being retained for Rs. 15 crores INR.
