Jos Buttler Stars As Rajasthan Thump Mumbai By 23 Runs

Jos Buttler's century proved to be the difference as Rajasthan Royals defeated Mumbai Indians by 23 runs in the 9th match of the IPL 2022 at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai. 

Buttler's ton helped RR set a target of 194 for MI. Chasing a stiff total, Mumbai didn't start well as they lost Rohit Sharma in the second over. Anmolpreet Singh got out in the fourth over as well. However, Ishan Kishan attacked and got MI to score 50 runs inside the powerplay. 

Kishan added 81 runs in 54 balls with Tilak Verma to keep MI in the chase. Both youngsters impressed everyone with their batting. Kishan scored 54 off 43 balls with the help of five fours and a six. 

Trent Boult provided the breakthrough in the form of Ishan. But Tilak continued. In the 15th over, the 19-year-old reverse swept R Ashwin for a six but on the next ball got bowled. The wicket was so much important that Ashwin was fired up getting the impressive youngster out for 61. 

Yuzvendra Chahal picked two wickets in two balls and almost got the hattrick in the 16th over. His over put Royals in the front despite Kieron Pollard at the crease. 

Some tight bowling in the slog overs didn't let Pollard let loose and Mumbai fell short by 23 runs in the end. 

Earlier, Mumbai won the toss and opted to field first. Jos Buttler got Rajasthan to a terrific start despite losing Yashaswi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal inside the powerplay. Buttler attacked Basil Thampi for 26 runs in the fourth over as RR finished the first six overs at a score of 48/2. 

Sanju Samson and Buttler added 82 runs in 50 balls for the third wicket to set up a strong base. Samson scored 30 in 21 balls before Pollard got him out. But Shimron Hetmyer continued the momentum with Buttler. In the 17th over, Hetmyer smacked 26 runs off Pollard's over. 

Buttler reached his century in the 18th over - his second IPL hundred but Bumrah got him out in the same over. Mills picked two wickets in the last over as Rajasthan finished on 193/8.
