In the concluded Challenger match of the Big Bash League (BBL 2021-22) between Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Sixers, an incident happened which may have never been witnessed before. With the match set to start in a few hours, Sydney Sixers had to play their Assistant Coach in the playing XI.

Before the match, Sydney Sixers' opener and wicketkeeper Josh Philippe was tested positive for COVID and was ruled out of the match with just a few hours to go. Surprisingly, Sydney Sixers didn't have a backup wicketkeeper option in their squad and had to play their assistant coach as the wicketkeeper!

Jay Lenton is just 31-years old and he played 5 matches for Sydney Sixers in the last season as well. However, due to his below-par performance, he took up the role of the assistant coach of the team. But he donned the gloves again as soon as the team required him to.

Lenton was obviously shocked when he heard that he had to take the field the same day for Sydney Sixers. In the pre-match show during an interview with him, he revealed that he came to know about his selection in the playing XI at 1 PM. It is notable that Philippe's 'last-minute' exclusion didn't bother the Sixers as they were able to register a 4 wicket win over Adelaide Strikers, making their way to the finals of the BBL 2021-22.
