Madhya Pradesh Defeat Mumbai By 6 Wickets; Win Maiden Ranji Trophy Title
After steamrolling everyone in the tournament, 41-time Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai were downed by Madhya Pradesh in the finals, as MP registered a 6-wicket win to lift the Ranji Trophy for the first time in their history. First innings centurion for MP, Rajat Patidar scored 30 not out in the 4th innings to take MP to a historic win.
After opting to bat first in the finals, Mumbai posted 374/10 in the first innings. Sarfaraz Khan and Yashasvi Jaiswal were the top scorers for Mumbai with 134 runs and 78 runs respectively. Gaurav Yadav picked up 4 wickets for MP, Anubhav Agarwal picked up 3, Saransh Jain registered 2 wickets while Kumar Kartikeya managed 1 wicket.
In reply, three MP batters smacked tons - Yash Dubey (133), Shubham Sharma (116) and Rajat Patidar (122) while Saransh Jain contributed with 57, as MP scored 536/10 in the first innings, asserting a first-inning lead. Shams Mulani picked up a 5-fer for Mumbai while Tushar Deshpande and Mohti Avasthi contributed with 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
Mumbai came out to bat on the fourth day and were restricted to 269/10 in the second innings. Suved Parkar was the top scorer with 51 runs while Sarfaraz Khan and captain Prithvi Shaw scored 45 and 44 runs respectively. Kumar Kartikeya picked up 4 wickets for MP while Gaurav Yadav and Parth Sahani picked up 2 wickets each.

With a target of 108, MP chased down the total in 29.5 overs with 6 wickets in hand. Patidar remained unbeaten on 30 while Himanshu Mantri and Shubham Sharma scored 30 runs each. Shams Mulani picked up 3 wickets and Dhawal Kulkarni picked up 1 wicket. This match was played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
