In what was a do-or-die game, Delhi Capitals got knocked out of the IPL 2022 as they couldn't defend 160 runs against Mumbai Indians, who chased down the target with five wickets in hand and five balls to spare. The result not only meant the elimination of DC but also helped Royal Challengers Bangalore to qualify for the playoffs.

The run chase was set by Ishan Kishan's 35-ball 48 that included three fours and four sixes. Mumbai hadn't started well as they only managed to score 27 runs in the powerplay and lost Rohit Sharma cheaply.

Ishan helped MI keep the scoring rate in control as he added 51 runs in 37 balls with Dewald Brevis for the second wicket. Brevis played a terrific knock of 37 that included three sixes and one four. While the two youngsters set up Mumbai's run chase, Tim David and Tilak Verma made sure they finished it.

David smacked 34 runs in just 11 balls with the help of four sixes and two fours while Tilak hit 21 in 17 balls. The duo added 50 runs in just 20 balls for the fifth wicket. Ramandeep Singh's 13 off six completed the run chase with five balls to spare.

For DC, Anrich Nortje and Shardul Thakur picked two wickets each while Kuldeep Yadav got one wicket.

Earlier, Mumbai had restricted Delhi to 159/7 in the first inning courtesy of Jasprit Bumrah's three wickets.

DC had a poor start as they got reduced to 37/3 in the powerplay and 50/4 in 8.4 overs. Prithvi Shaw scored 24 but Mitchell Marsh, David Warner, and Sarfaraz Khan got out cheaply.

Rishabh Pant and Rovman Powell added 75 runs in 44 balls for the fifth wicket. While Pant made 39 off 33 balls, Powell scored 43 in 34 balls. Axar Patel scored 19 in 10 balls to get DC past the 150-run mark.

Apart from Bumrah's 3/25, Ramandeep Singh picked two wickets in his two overs while Daniel Sams and Mayank Markande got a wicket each.
