WATCH: Pat Cummins Brings Up Fastest IPL Fifty; Thrashes Daniel Sams For 35 Runs In An Over
KKR vs MI IPL 2022: World's best bowler at the moment, or as many experts claim him to be, Australian pacer Pat Cummins showed what he's capable of with the bat. The test captain for his national side in tests, Cummins smacked the joint-fastest fifty in IPL history as took KKR to a 5 wicket win in a match that looked out of Kolkata's grasp at a point.
Chasing a target of 162 on a tricky Pune pitch, KKR lost 4 wickets in the 12th over at a score of 83. Venkatesh Iyer held one end with his 50 off 41 balls, while Man of the match in the last KKR outing, Andre Russell came onto bat at #6 and scored 11 runs off 5 balls. However, he was dismissed at 101 in the 14th over. KKR needed 61 runs in 41 balls when Pat Cummins came out to bat.
And then, it was a Pat Cummins show. The Australian pacer was sent in to bat above Sunil Narine and smacked an unbeaten 56 runs off just 15 balls as KKR achieved the target with 4 overs still remaining.
Pat Cummins targeted his countryman Daniel Sams and smacked him for 35 runs in the 16th over, finishing a probable close match in a whiff.
Cummins was already on 22* off 8 balls when the over started and he smacked Sams for a six straight down the ground as the bowler missed a yorker.
Sams went on to miss another yorker on the second delivery which was heaved with a lot of power by Cummins and the ball went over mid-wicket, square of the fielder in the deep for a four. The third delivery was fed in Cummins' arc and the bowler smacked it for a six a long way over deep square leg. The fourth deliver was yet again smacked for a six as Sams failed to bowl on the desired line. Cummins shuffled across and helped the delivery over fine leg for a six, where the fielder was up in the circle.
The fifth delivery was a no-ball which otherwise would had been a wicket courtesy of a brilliant catch by Suryakumar Yadav on the ropes. Sams bowled the 5th delivery a slower one and Cummins walked across the line early, whipping it for a four through square leg to bring up the joint-fastest fifty in IPL, in 14 balls. KKR required 6 more runs to win and Cummins had already decided to finish things off in the very over.
The last delivery was dispatched for a winning six by Cummins on a length ball in his arc, went straight down the ground over the sightscreen, and left every spectator shell-shocked by what they had witnessed.

While talking about the match, KKR captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss & opted to bowl first against MI in the 14th match of IPL 2022. MI lost captain Rohit Sharma early and were 2 wickets down in the 7th over on a meagre score. However, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma helped MI to 161/4 in 20 overs. In reply, KKR batters fell quickly at one end while Venkatesh Iyer held the other end with an anchoring 50 runs off 41 balls. In the 14th over, out came Cummins and finished the match off a 15-ball-56, winning the match for KKR by 5 wickets with 4 overs remaining.
