In what turned out to be an extraordinary 15 balls, Pat Cummins smacked the joint-fastest fifty in IPL to power Kolkata Knight Riders to a five-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in the 14th match of the IPL 2022.

Chasing 162, KKR had an ordinary start, losing two wickets - Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer - inside the powerplay and only managed 35 runs. Venkatesh Iyer dropped anchor to take the game deep.

Iyer added 32 runs with Sam Billings for the third wicket before the wicketkeeper got out trying to hit Murugan Ashwin for a six. Nitish Rana couldn't score much and got out two overs later.

Andre Russell showed intent and hit 11 in 5 balls but Tymal Mills got him out as the KKR score read 101/5 in 13.1 overs.

Pat Cummins walked in and slammed the bowlers left right and center. Cummins was middling the ball better than anyone in the match. He smashed fifty in 14 balls to score the joint-fastest fifty in IPL.

Cummins assaulted Daniel Sams for 35 runs in the 16th over to finish the match with four overs to spare. Venkatesh Iyer remained unbeaten on 50 from 41 balls while Cummins finished at 56 in 15 balls with the help of four fours and six sixes.

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav's timely half-century and a crucial knock from Tilak Verma helped MI reach 161/4 in the first inning.
KKR bowled disciplined lines upfront and didn't let the Mumbai top order to score freely. It was Suryakumar and Tilak who added 83 runs in 49 balls to finish the inning on a high. Kieron Pollard hit 22 in five balls in the last over to take Mumbai's total past 160-run mark.

Youngster Dewald Brevis also impressed with his cameo inning of 29 in 19 balls that included two fours and two sixes.
