SA v IND Memories: All The Test Matches India Won In South Africa
Winning in South Africa is tough, especially for a team coming from the sub-continent. The extreme changes in playing conditions makes it hard for the teams to adjust.
India has played 20 test matches in South Africa and have won three of them. As Team India once again gears up to play a three-match test series in South Africa and looking strong to challenge the hosts, let's look back at all the wins the visitors have registered:
1) 2006
In the first test match of the tour, Rahul Dravid won the toss and opted to bat first in Johannesburg. India, with some decent middle-order contributions, scored 249 runs in the first innings. Shaun Pollock and Makhaya Ntini picked seven wickets between them.
South Africa, in reply, were bowled out for just 84 runs. S Sreesanth picked a five-wicket haul. With a lead of 165, India added another 236 runs. VVS Laxman top-scored with 73 and helped his team give a target of 402 runs.
Indian pacers were on the role as they bundled out South Africa for 278 despite the heroic efforts of Ashwell Prince, who scored 97. Under Rahul Dravid, India registered their first win in South Africa.
2) 2010
After suffering a loss in the first test, India came to Durban to try their luck. Graeme Smith won the toss and opted to field. South Africa bundled out India for 205. Dale Steyn picked up six wickets in his 19 overs.
For the hosts, the pace did the trick and for India, spinners. Harbhajan picked up four wickets to bowl South Africa out for just 131. With a lead of 74 runs, India, once again with the help of VVS Laxman added another 228 runs to the lead. Laxman scored 96 runs.
South Africa remained in the game for most of the run chase as every batter contributed but not enough as Indian bowlers combined to bowl out hosts for 215 to win the test by 87 runs.
3) 2018
India had already lost the first two games but to Johannesburg with high spirits. Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat first. In a challenging pitch, India got bowled out for 187.

In reply, South Africa too got bowled for 194. Jasprit Bumrah picked up a five-wicket haul. In the 2nd innings, India batted fairly better and gave a target of 241 for South Africa to chase. Dean Elgar scored 86 and remained not out but the rest of the South African couldn't support him got bowled out for 177. Mohammad Shami picked a five-wicket haul as India registered its third test win in South Africa.
