Sanju Samson is a story that is yet to reach its peak but even, in the beginning, it has seen some massive twists and turns. Samson, 27-year-old, is one of the promising cricketers of the current generation.

However, the myth regarding Sanju is he hasn't always delivered to his potential which is one of the reasons why he has always been in and out of the Indian squad. Sanju Samson made his debut for India in 2015 when he was 20-year-old against Zimbabwe in Harare. However, the next time he played for India was when he was 25-years-old.

These five years were what Sanju called 'the most challenging period' of his career. Despite having enough skills and talent, Samson wasn't playing up to his potential consistently which meant he had to wait long to once again enter the Indian dressing room.

"I made my debut when I was 19 or 20 and I was 25 when I was selected again for the Indian team. Those 5 years were the most challenging period of my life. I had been dropped from the Kerala team too," Sanju recalled in Breakfast with Champions.

During these five years, Samson got frustrated a lot of times with himself for getting out cheaply. On one such event, Sanju threw his bat away and left the game unfinished to go out for a walk at Marine Drive.

"In those 5 years, I'd just keep getting out each time I'd go to bat. One day I lost my mind, I entered the dressing room and threw my bat. I just left the ground while the match was going on. I was in Brabourne Stadium, I said, "I'm leaving cricket, I'm going home. You keep your bat and everything, I'm done".

I walked out on to Marine Drive and sat down, looking at the sea. I sat there for 3-4 fours and returned at night after the game had ended. It was a nice bat and I went to check if it had broken. It had broken in two," Samson further added.

Now, even though Samson is still in and out of the Indian team but he has got more mature and experienced and has been handed over the duties to captain IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals. Samson has been doing quite well in whatever games he has played. The days aren't far when Sanju Samson will be a regular feature in the squad and not just a backup keeper.
