Shakib Al Hasan handed one-match ban in BPL
Dhaka, November 27 - All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was slapped with a one-match suspension on Friday for hurling invectives during a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match.
The Rangpur Riders captain was also fined 20,000 taka (around Rs.17,230) on two counts of the violation during Thursday's match against Sylhet Superstars at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, reports bdnews24.com.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in a media statement issued on Friday said on-field umpires Sharfuddoula and Tanvir Ahmed reported Shakib for "using abusive language" after dismissing Superstars' batsman Dilshan Munaweera in the fourth over of the innings.
Match Referee Selim Shahed imposed the fine after the player pleaded guilty to the offence.
The ban came after the star all-rounder directed "offensive and abusive language" towards umpire Ahmed in the 13th over after the latter had turned down an appeal.
Bowler Thisara Perera and the fielders close by made a huge caught behind appeal for Mushfiqur Rahim after wicketkeeper Mohammad Mithun caught Rahim and immediately appealed.
Ahmed, however, paid no heed to the appeal. Shakib then walked up to him and was seen having a heated conversation with the umpire.
Asked to comment on the incident after the match, Shakib, who was adjudged Man-of-the-Match for his performance, said, "These things happen. I really don't want to talk about it."
As a result, Shakib will not be playing in the Riders' game against Comilla Victorians on Friday. Since the player admitted the offences and accepted the sanction proposed by the Match Referee, a formal hearing was not required.
