Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who celebrates his birthday on 16th August, is a West Indian legend and a world-class batter. Known for his unorthodox batting stance, Chanderpaul finished as the second-highest run-scorer for West Indies.

1) Born in an Indo-Guyanese family, Shivnarine Chanderpaul was the first Indo-Caribbean cricketer to play 100 test matches for West Indies. 

2) As a kid, Chanderpaul was coached by West Indian legend Rohan Kanhai, who was also known as 'Tiger of Port Mourant'. It was Kanhai who gave Chanderpaul the nickname of 'Tiger'. 

3) In his early days, Chanderpaul was often known for late-night partying. In one infamous incident, the West Indian shot a policeman as he mistook him as a thief. Fortunately, it wasn't fatal. 

4) Shivnarine Chanderpaul loved batting against India. In the 2002 series, he batted for 1051 deliveries without being dismissed. During that series, Chanderpaul hit three centuries and three fifties. 

5) Chanderpaul became the second player after New Zealand's Graham Dowling to score a double century on captaincy debut in Test matches. 

6) Shivnarine Chanderpaul's son, Tagenarine, is also a cricketer. He played ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2014 and made his First-Class debut in 2013. Both father and son have also batted together for Guyana in First-Class cricket.

7) In 2014, Chanderpaul got stumped for the first time in his 20-year-long test career. It took him 266 innings to miss a ball after coming down the track. 

8) Chanderpaul has been involved in record 750 partnerships in Test cricket. Rahul Dravid is the next on the list with 738, while Sachin Tendulkar has had 675 batting partners.

9) Shivnarine Chanderpaul played a total of 164 test matches, in which he scored 11867 runs, including 30 centuries. In 268 ODIs, Chanderpaul hit 8778 runs with the help of 11 hundreds. 

10) The left-hander played 385 first-class matches in which he scored 27545 runs and hit 77 centuries. In 423 List-A matches, Chanderpaul amassed 13439 runs, which included 13 tons.
