Sourav Ganguly bats for Dhoni to bat at No.4
Kolkata, Oct 27 (CRICKETNMORE) Former India captain Sourav Ganguly on Thursday backed limited overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni to bat at the No.4 position while disagreeing that the team is too dependent on star batsman Virat Kohli.
"Let him play at number four. He will finish from there. Finisher does not mean he has to bat from the 40th over," Ganguly said.
"Virat (Kohli) bats at three and he is finishing games. It's a wrong concept that a finisher has to come lower down the order. Dhoni got India over the ropes in the other match batting at four."
Dhoni scored 80 in the third One-Day in Mohali helping India chase down a target of 286 with Kohli scoring an unbeaten 154.
But both Dhoni and Kohli failed to help India chase down a target of 261 runs in the fourth match at Ranchi on Wednesday, enabling New Zealand to square the five-match series 2-2.
The fifth and final match is slated for Saturday in Visakhapatnam.
Asked if the team is becoming too reliant on Kohli, Ganguly said: "He (Virat Kohli) is an excellent player, but I don't think the team is becoming too dependent on him.
"New Zealand is a good side. They will win some matches also."
