Sri Lanka won the first test against Australia (Match Report)

30th July (CRICKETNMORE) - Sri Lanka won the first test against Australia at Pallekele Stadium, Kandy by 106 runs. Check the inning-wise match report of the test match:

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first.

Sri Lanka First Innings - 117/10

The decision didn't turned out to be in favour of the home side as Australia bowled our Sri Lanka for just 117 runs in their first innings. Sri Lanka were not able to play full 35 overs.

Top Scorers - DM de Silva (24) & K Perera (20) 

For Australia, J Hazlewood & N Lyon took 3 wickets each where as  S O Keefe & M Starc took 2 wickets each.

Australia First Innings - 203/10

Australia failed to capitalise the brilliant effort made by their bowlers and were bowled out for just 203. Though the openers went early, other batsmen got good start but none of them were able to convert it into a long innings.

Top Scorers - A Voges - 47, M Marsh - 31, & S Smith - 30

For Sri Lanka, spinners Hearth & L Sandakan took 4 wickets each whereas N Pradeep got two wickets.

Australia got first innings lead of 86 runs

Sri Lanka Second Innings  353/10

Maiden test century by Kusal Mendis helped Sri Lanka to make a comeback in the second innings. Kusal along with the lower order batsman took the Sri Lankan innings over 300.

For Australia, M Starc took 4 wickets while N Lyon and Hazlewood took 2 wickets each

Australia were given the target of 268 runs in the fourth innings to win the test

Australian team collapsed while chasing down the traget for just 161. R Hearth once again did the main damage and took 5 wickets. He was well supported by L Sandakan who took 3 wickets.
