Stats: Highest Team Totals In India vs Sri Lanka T20Is

IND vs SL: After a 3-0 whitewash against West Indies in the 3-match T20 series, India is set to host Sri Lanka for 3 T20Is at Lucknow and Dharamsala, to be played from February 24th (Thursday). India would look to continue their winning momentum while Sri Lanka would look to recover from a 1-4 defeat against Australia in the 5-match T20I series.

India crashed out of the Super 12 stage from the T20 World Cup in 2021 after winning only 3 matches out of their 5, while Sri Lanka also crashed out with 2 wins in 5 matches. With the approaching T20 World Cup 2021, both these teams would look to fix their batting combination right.

#5. India (201/6, Pune 2020)

After being put in to bat first in the 3rd T20I at Pune in 2020, Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul provided an opening partnership of 97 runs in 65 balls and laid the foundation for a huge total. KL Rahul scored 54 runs in 36 balls with 5 fours and a six, while Dhawan scored 52 runs in 36 balls in 7 fours and a six. While Manish Pandey also scored 31* off 18 and Virat scored 26 in 17 balls batting at #6. Sri Lanka were then restricted to 123 in 15.5 overs. 


#4. Sri Lanka (206/7, Mohali 2009)

In the 2nd T20I at Mohali in 2009, Sri Lankan batters posted a total of 206/7 in front of the Indians. For Sri Lanka, opener Sanath Jayasuriya scored 31 off 21, Sangakkara scored 59 runs in 31 balls, Chinthaka Jayasinghe scored 38 runs in 28 balls while Angelo Mathews scored 26 runs in 13 balls. 


#3. India (211/4, Mohali 2009)

In the same T20I at Mohali in 2009, India chased down the target of 207 as they finished with 211/4 in 19.4 overs. Virender Sehwag started the fireworks with 36-ball-64, Dhoni smacked 46 runs in 28 balls while batting at #4, and Yuvraj smacked 60* runs off 25 balls as he finished the match with 5 balls and 6 wickets in hand. 


#2. Sri Lanka (215/4, Nagpur 2009)

Kumar Sangakkara displayed his batting brilliance as he thrashed 78 runs in just 37 balls with 11 fours and 2 sixes, and Sri Lanka posted a total of 215/5 in the 1st T20I at Nagpur in 2009. India opted to field first in the match after winning the toss and in the end, fell 29 runs short of the target. Apart from Sangakkara, Kapugedra also contributed with his 20-ball-47. Sri Lanka managed to win the match by 29 runs. 


#1. India (260/5, Indore 2017)

The 2nd T20I at Indore in 2017 saw Rohit Sharma's batting master class, as the skipper scored 118 off 43 balls, smashing 12 fours and 10 sixes as he sabotaged the Lankan bowling attack. His opening partner KL Rahul also contributed with 89 runs in 49 balls as India posted 260/5 in 20 overs. In reply, none of the batters apart from the top 3 in Sri Lanka's batting could manage a double-digit score, and Kusal Perera remained the top scorer with 77 runs in 37 balls. Sri Lanka were restricted to 172 in 17.2 overs and India won the match by 88 runs.

The 3-match series between India and Sri Lanka is set to start from February 24th (Thursday). The first T20I will be played at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium, Lucknow while the remaining two T20Is will be played on 26th and 27th at Dharamsala.
