Abhishek Sharma Takes SRH To First Win Of The Season, CSK Continues Winless Streak
Abhishek Sharma's 75 helped Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Chennai Super Kings by 8 wickets and register the first win of the IPL 2022 after beginning the season with two losses while the defending champions continued their losing streak in the fourth match.
Chasing 155, Abhishek and Kane Williamson added 89 runs for the opening wicket in 12.1 overs to set up the run chase for SRH. The duo began slowly, adding just 37 runs in the powerplay but didn't lose a wicket.
Abhishek was the aggressor among the two as Williamson scored 32 in 40 balls before Mukesh Choudhary gave CSK the breakthrough in the 13th over.
Rahul Tripathi joined Abhishek at the crease and upped the scoring rate with a 56-run stand in 31 balls. Tripathi pushed the accelerator button in this stand and took SRH close to the target. Abhishek got out in the 18th over after hitting 75 in 50 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes. Tripathi finished the game in the same over and remained unbeaten on 39 in 15 balls.
Earlier, after being put in to bat first, CSK lost two wickets - Robin Uthappa and Ruturaj Gaikwad - inside the powerplay and scored 41 runs.
Moeen Ali and Ambati Rayudu added 62 runs in 50 balls for the third wicket to set up a strong finish for the rest of the batters. But both Rayudu (27) and Ali (48) got out in consecutive overs to bring SRH back in the game. Disciplined death bowling and losing wickets at regular intervals didn't help CSK much as they finished the inning at 154/7.
