Suspect detained in Wasim Akram shooting incident
Karachi, Aug 8 - Karachi Police have detained one suspect in the shooting incident involving former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram.
"The police have detained one suspect after a raid on his home in Quaidabad's Daud Chowrangi locality," Munir Ahmed Shaikh, DIG Karachi-East Zone, was quoted as saying by dawn.com.pk on Saturday.
Shaikh said the arrested suspect is the driver of the vehicle which hit the legendary pacer's car on a busy road on Wednesday, resulting in an altercation which led to the reported shooting.
The fast bowler was unhurt and the shooter hastily fled the scene when a crowd began to gather.
The shooting took place after a minor accident when the shooter's car hit Akram's Mercedes car. Following a heated exchange of words, the suspect sitting in the back of the car, opened fire. In the initial probe, the suspect corroborated the sequence of events.
The DIG East also said that the main suspect who opened fire has been identified, but refused to reveal his identity.
Wasim Akram, who is currently supervising a 13-day trial camp for talented pacers, will reportedly continue with his assignment.
