T20 WC 10th Match: Shakib's All Round Performance Against PNG Boosts Chances For Bangladesh As They Grab A 85 Run Win
Ace Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan took Bangladesh to a one-sided victory against Papua New Guinea in a do-or-die match. Shakib took 4 wickets in the second innings to restrict PNG at 97/10, who were chasing 182. Shakib also scored 46 off 37 balls to help his team set a mammoth target in this crucial match. Apart from Shakib, Saifuddin & Taskin took 2 wickets while Mahedi Hasan took 1 wicket each.
For PNG, wicketkeeper Doriga scored 46 & Soper scored 11. None of the other batters were able to cross the double-digit mark in their individual scores.
Bangladesh needed to win this match by a good margin to help stay alive in the tournament. With this win, they have kept their chances of qualifying for the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup alive.
In the first innings, Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah & Shakib al Hasan powered Bangladesh to a score of 181/7 against Papua New Guinea. Bangladesh were off to a bad start, losing Mohammad Naim on the second ball of the match. However, skipper Mahmudullah scored 50 runs off 28 balls with 3 fours & 3 sixes. While Shakib Al Hasan scored 46 runs off 37 balls with 3 sixes.
For PNG, bowlers bowled brilliantly but Bangladesh batters were on a mission - to win the match with a big margin to improve their NRR and win to qualify for the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup. Kabua Morea, Damien Ravu & captain Assad Vala picked up 2 wickets each while Simon Atai picked up 1 wicket as well.
Earlier, Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah won the toss & elected to bat first against Papua New Guinea in the 9th match of the T20 World Cup 2021. This match isbeing played at Al Amerat Cricket Ground (Ministry Turf 1), Al Amerat.
Now, Bangladesh fate's will be decided by the next match between Oman & Scotland. If Oman wins, it will be a three-way tie and the winner will be decided by the net run rate. If Scotland wins, then Scotland and Bangladesh would qualify for the Super 12 stage.
