T20 World Cup: Ireland Enters Super 12 Stage After A Historic 9-Wicket Win Over West Indies

WI vs IRE: Paul Stirling's heroic batting leads Ireland to the Super 12 stage after an emphatic 9-wicket win over two times T20 World Cup Champions West Indies here at Hobart.

While chasing a low target of 147 runs, the Irish batting batted amazingly well and chased down the target in 17.3 overs after scoring 152/1.

Paul Stirling played one of his best and most important knocks of unbeaten 66 runs in 48 balls which included 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Stirling along with Andy Balbirnie who scored 37 runs in 23 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes, smashed a 73-runs opening stand.

After Balbirnie's departure, Lorcan Tucker batted beautifully and scored an unbeaten 45 off 35 deliveries by hitting 2 four and 2 sixes. Both the batters partnered unbeaten 78 runs stand for the second wicket.  

For West Indies, nothing went in their favor in the second inning. Akela Hosain was the only bowler to get one wicket and the rest of the bowlers didn't even try to put any pressure on the opponents.

Earlier in the first inning, after Winning the toss skipper Nicholas Poora decided to bat first but his plans were dismantled by strong Irish bowling.

In a do-or-die match in Round 1, T20 World Cup, Gareth Delany thwarted the West Indies team with his 3/16 and helped Ireland restrict West Indies to 146/5 here at Hobart.

Brandon King scored 62 runs in 48 balls, and Charles got 24 which helped the side to reach a low total in the decider.

Ireland came up with the plan of giving 100% and executed them well as Delany (3), McCarthy (1), and Simi Singh (1) dismissed Indies. The rest of the bowlers didn't get any wickets but picked the spot well and bowled with a low economy.
