Team India Beat New Zealand By 8 Wickets To Proceed To U19 Women's T20 World Cup Finals
U19 Women's T20 World Cup: After an inspired bowling performance by Parshavi Chopra, Shweta Sehrawat continued her excellent form with the bat as India defeated New Zealand by 8 wickets in the semi-final of U19 Women's T20 World Cup 2023. India will now face off against the winner of Australia and England in the finals.
Chasing 108 to win, India got off to a good start as openers blasted 33 runs in the first 3.2 overs. However, captain Shafali Verma was dismissed after scoring 10 runs off 9 balls. Right-arm medium bowler Anna Browning picked up the captain's wicket.
Shweta Sehrawat on the other hand continued with her good form as he smacked an unbeaten 61 runs off 45 balls to power team India to a win with 34 deliveries remaining. Soumya Tiwari also contributed with 22 runs while batting at #3. For New Zealand, Anna Browning picked up the 2 wickets.
In the first innings, Courtesy of a 3-wicket haul by Parshavi Chopra, Indian women managed to halt New Zealand women to 107/9 in 20 overs. India now requires 108 runs in 20 overs to proceed to the finals of the U19 Women's T20 World Cup.
Parshavi Chopra was the top wicket-taker with 3 wickets to her name, while Titas Sadhu, Mannat Kashyap, Shafali Verma and Archana Devi contributed with a wicket each.
For New Zealand, Georgia Plimmer was the top scorer with 35 runs off 32 balls. Isabella Gaze contributed with 26 runs while captain Izzy Sharp scored 13 runs. None of the other batters were able to breach the double-digit mark.
Earlier, India captain Shafali Verma won the toss & opted to bowl first against New Zealand in the semi-final of the Women's U19 World Cup 2023. This match is being played at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom.
