The 1975 Cricket World Cup was the first edition of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Cricket World Cup. It was held from 7 to 21 June 1975 in England.
Teams - 6 Test playing teams (Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan & West Indies) and 2 associate nations (Sri Lanka & East Africa). The preliminary matches were played in 2 groups of 4 each. The top two teams from each group then played the knock-out rounds of semi-finals and final.

- The first world cup was officially known as Prudential World Cup as the tournament was sponsored by Prudential Assurance Company
- Glenn Turner scored the highest individual score of 1975 world cup. he scored 171* against East Africa
- Glenn Turner scored the most runs in the world cup - 333
- Garry Gilmour (Australia) tops the wickets tally - 11
- H D Bird & T W Spencer were the umpires in the final of 1975 world cup
- Clive Llyod (West Indies) was awarded man of the match for his brilliant batting and captainship
- Madan Lal (India) bowled the first ball of the World Cup Denis Amiss (England) scored the first century of World cup
- India beat East Africa by 10 wickets. It was the first 10 wickets victory of any team in world Cup.
- All the matches were of 60 overs per team
- Final of the first World Cup was played at 'Lords'.
- Garry Gilmour produced the best bowling figures of 6/14 against England in the semi-final
- Highest partnership for any wicket was between Rick McCosker and Alan Turner. The partnership added 182 runs for the first wicket against Sri Lanka
- Highest team score was made by England against India. England made 334/4 in 60 overs in the opening match of world cup.
